Elevate your youth: comp coaches needed!

We’re looking for a head coach in all of our locations!

We are still in a mode of flux as we refine our practices, so adaptability and a can-do attitude to take on tasks and changes as they come up is important. We are looking for someone who can be friendly and kind, but also direct and address issues to resolution as they come up.

Position description: The Pad and Origin youth climbing teams are instrumental in fostering an engaging, motivating, and safe environment for the next generation of passionate climbers. The Competitive Team Coach will act as an ambassador to the community through our youth climbing teams and their parents. We believe that we as a business have the ability to change lives for the better and inclusively inspire kids to learn from climbing and use its skills for the rest of their lives. We are looking for someone to help make our youth teams a model for the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead up to four practice sessions each week for the competition team
  • Prepare a detailed lesson plan at the start of each month 
    • Collaborate with the assistant coach and Head Coach to create a structure and laid out goals for the training program 
    • Lesson plans should include climbing technique instruction, strength development, group climbing sessions, and activities that develop the team 
    • Ensure the training plan is followed once established 
  • Ensure the Competitive Team monthly budget is being followed and fulfilling the needs of staff, team, and community
  • Check-in with kids, parents, and coworkers to ensure the program is running smoothly and achieving the goals we have set
  • Ensure the team is working towards their goals of training, competition, and fulfillment with an appropriate amount and types of practices
  • Help coordinate competition seasons with coaches, kids, and parents
  • Stay up to date on USA Coaching Certifications, obtaining a Level 2
  •  Inform our teams of kids, their parents, and coworkers about USA level competition schedules and updates
  • Suggest and implement ideas to better serve the community and ensure the team does not negatively impact the rest of the gym
  • Communicate effectively about upcoming events, changes in schedule, and team needs with parents, kids, and coworkers
  • Travel to climbing competitions. Due to our geographic location overnights will be required more often than not. Coaches travel, places to stay, and food costs will be covered by the gym 
  • Continue growing the program through professional development courses or other forms of education related to coaching, youth programming, and competition climbing as budget allows and management requests 
  • Recruit/encourage potential participants not already engaged in the program
  • Pro deals
    • Oversee shoe orders through the Five Ten account

Requirements:

  • 2 years minimum experience with customer service, including written (ie email)
  • Demonstrated experience as a team player – you will interact with both the staff under you and other program teammates to coordinate activities and gym operations
  • 1 years minimum experience in leading a team
  • 2 years minimum experience with kinesiology and physical training/conditioning education related to climbing
  • Experience working with all ages of kids, able to understand the unique needs and personal safety requirements of them
  • Long history of committed, professional experience
  • Be a part of the rock climbing community – we don’t care how hard you climb, but you should have enough experience to speak the lingo, make safety calls (or know who to defer to) and feel confident in training belay certification. Experience climbing outside a major plus – we’re a gym run by people who climb outside and we like the culture that brings
